In 2015 BuSSy began a series of workshops in high schools around Cairo to uncover the often unheard, and neglected stories of high school students. The resulting stories and research on high schoolers’ lives, relationships, and issues with gender, family, and education became BuSSy’s performance: Khomsomeeyat, or ‘500s’.
The performance was scheduled to premiere as part of the International Hakawy Festival at the Cairo Opera House, but just a few hours before the show, the Opera House directors deemed the content of the show inappropriate due to its mention of sexual education and masturbation. BuSSy was told to censor those parts, or cancel the performance. Thus, BuSSy chose to cancel the performance.
Just a few weeks later, BuSSy had secured a new venue at The Greek Campus, and premiered “500s” for the first time to three sold out audiences.
The performance later went on to tour Port Said and Assiut.
