“Why can’t I hit boys?”
“That’s just how it is. Girls shouldn’t hit boys!”
“Why?”
“That’s just how it is.”
I used to beat up the boys with me in class until primary school.
I was tall,
Had a big belly,
And the boys hadn’t reached puberty yet.
They used to call me the “big girl.”
I thought it was the right thing to do.
All the boys I hit had it coming.
I was convinced that if someone hit me, I was supposed to hit them back,
Whether it was a girl or a boy.
But when I grew up,
I was told it was improper for a girl to hit a boy.
So I stopped hitting them,
Because it was improper.
But they kept hitting me.
When I have children,
I’ll tell my daughter to hit whoever hits her.
“No matter how badly he beats you up,
Beat him up back!”
