Men in White and Women in Black

I used to work as a sales person in a computer shop in Riyadh.
A woman wearing the niqab came in, and looked at me and my colleagues
“Oh, God bless, who of you should I talk to?” she asked
“You could talk to whoever you’re comfortable talking to, miss!”

She walked over to me,
I sold her a laptop and a lot of other things and she left.
By the end of the day my guardian ( my boss) called me and said,
“What on earth did you do today with the Princess?”
“What princess?”
“The princess to whom you sold so and so to.
She called and made a complaint about you”
“About me? Why?”
“You told her to choose whoever she’s comfortable with.
She said, ‘I didn’t walk into a nightclub for him to talk to me this way.
I’m not coming here again!’
Don’t you understand that you’re in Saudi now?
Here there is respect. There is modesty and manners!
Go to your country if you want to be perverse.
You can be immodest all you want there.
But here there is propriety!”
I was hurt that he talked about my country this way,
I had to say something.
I calmed myself down and looked at him and said,
“I didn’t mean anything suggestive.
Everything I said came from a well-intentioned place,
If she understood anything else, or you felt otherwise,
Then the problem is with your dirty minds that are always in the gutter!”

From that day forward,
Whenever I saw a woman in Saudi, I crossed to the other side.
It was a depressing life,
A life that only had two colors:
Men in white, and women in black!
