The Rules of Manhood

The Rules of Manhood

I like being myself. I can't pretend to be anyone else.
I talk the way I want and sit the way I find most comfortable.

I'm a person who gestures with their hands sometimes when they speak, and I always get this comment: "Real men don’t do that."
Sometimes, I also get "Real men don’t sit like that."
Things got worse over time.
I get comments like "Man up", "Act like a man",
"You're not a woman, so don't act like one",
"Men don't cry", and "Only women sit like that".

It's very annoying, and it upsets me. It's not only guys who say comments like that. I get them from girls too.
I don't understand why the word “woman" is used as an insult.
They keep going at it:  "Effeminate", "Wuss", "Fag". I don't even know why they keep calling me these things!
Sometimes it’s the people closest to me who say these things. It hurts, but I try to act like I don’t care.

I have to sit a certain way, I can't move my hands when I speak.
I can't cry around people, and if someone hits me, I have to hit them back. These are just a few examples of things I should do if I want "to be a man."
I’m still going to be myself, no matter how much this costs me and no matter how many times people tell me that I'm "not a man."
