My hair is naturally curly.
I got it from my maternal grandmother.
The rest of my family members all have long, straight hair.
I’ve been subjected to all sorts of ridicule and mockery,
But it hurt the most when it came from my family.
The thing I’ll never forget is how my Arabic teacher at school never called me by my name.
She knew my name but always chose to call me,
“The girl with frizzy hair sitting in the back.”
I’ll never forget it.
The whole class used to laugh at me.
My classmates sometimes even called me that whenever we got into heated arguments.
