My Neighbor and Close Friend

I was released from jail on the 21st of July.
After I was released, I became a guarantor for my friend.
She was my neighbor and close friend.
She had finished all the payments for her apartment and everything.
But she had to pay late fees because she paid on the 10th instead of the 1st.
I didn’t know all this.
She visited me when I was in jail and said, “I finished all the payments and got the lease and everything.”
When I was released, I was sent to the police station and held there.
But I was lucky. I knew a boy that I had practically raised. He became an officer when he grew up.
When his mother told him what happened, he came over to the police station and became my guarantor .
On the morning of the 22nd, an officer told me that I still had to serve another year in jail.
“What?”
He told me it was because of my friend’s case.
The friend I had became a guarantor for.
“But I didn’t take anything,” I said.
“But aren’t you her guarantor? She still hasn’t paid what she owes, and you’re going to have to answer for that.”
Luckily, my brother had given me his phone number. I called him and he became my guarantor.
The sheriff at the police station told my brother that I had to go through the procedures again as soon as I was released.

“What happened?” I asked my friend when I saw her.
“I swear to God, I paid all the money I owed, but I still haven’t received the documents that prove it.”

I paid 4,000 LE to finish the clearance procedures, and she didn’t pay me back a single cent.
“Just pay using your money,” she had said to me.
“What makes you think I have any?” I asked.
“Just pay now and I’ll pay you back later.”
Needless to say, I paid up because I didn’t want to go back to jail.
I went to a lawyer and ended up paying 3,000 or 4,000 LE.
I stayed at my mother’s after that.
