“When you go up on stage, stand up straight like this, and look straight ahead.”
Every time I get up on stage, I feel like my body is on trial.
When I look at other people who don’t live in Egypt, I feel like their bodies are a part of them.
They don’t drag it behind them like so many of us do.
It’s not a heavy weight.
A burden.
Something shameful.
They move easily and fluidly as if they’re flying.
But I feel like every time I stand, sit, or move, I’m hiding my body.
