I’m Travelling

“Where are you?
Tell me where you are now.
Why are you so late?
Tell me now.
I’m not going to hang up.
We’ll continue this conversation when you get home.
Right now.
I want you here in five minutes.
I don’t care how.”

“Listen,
I don’t want to get into this.
I don’t need this headache.
You’ll tell them at work that you can’t travel.
That’s it.
It’s not up for discussion.
That’s just how things are.
You can travel with your husband,
When you get married.

I won’t get into women’s rights,
And all that blabber of yours.
You’ll call them,
And tell them that you’re not travelling.
If they reject you,
I’ll give you money.
That’s just how things are.
Why are you still trying to convince me?
And why are you raising your voice?”

“I’m travelling abroad next week.
I issued my passport,
And I’m going to travel.
I’m twenty-three years old,
And I know what I’m doing.
I’m travelling.
I’m not asking for your permission.
I’m telling you it’s happening.”
