I was born with crossed eyes.
It’s supposedly subtle,
But it bothers me,
And makes me feel insecure,
Because everyone who talks to me,
Looks straight at my eyes.
“Did you used to wear glasses?” a lot of people have asked me.
I actually have perfect vision.
It makes me hate myself.
I only take pictures with my side profile,
Or show only half my face.
I was engaged to a man who thought it was okay to joke about it and say,
“Don’t cross your eyes at me.”
It killed me when people fixated on it.
I was bullied a lot at school.
As hard as it was,
It motivated me to work hard,
And go to one of the top universities,
And work with prestigious establishments.
When I went to an ophthalmologist to get corrective surgery,
He refused,
Because its success rate wasn’t high.
I thank God all the time,
Especially that some people have no vision at all.
