Orphaned by Law

Orphaned by Law

I’m a father of two. My children are orphaned by the law.
Only in Egypt can a mother separate her children from their father.
[Editor’s note: According to Egyptian law, divorced women are given custody of their children till the age of 15. After that, the child is asked to choose which parent to live with. However, if the mother chooses to remarry, custody is given immediately to the father, even if the child is still under the age of 15.]

Like any young man in Egypt, I dreamt of owning an apartment, starting a family, and settling down.
After I got married, God blessed me with the most beautiful girl in the world, then later on, a little boy.
My wife—the mother of my children—suddenly left after a conflict that rose between us.
She filed a lawsuit against me, in which she claimed that I damaged her property.
I found myself forced to dismantle every piece of the apartment I had put together with my own sweat and blood.
I was forced to give it up to my wife, the mother of my children, in court so I wouldn’t be thrown in prison.
The mother of my children dragged me to court and brought false witnesses.

The pain is unbearable.
What hurts the most is that she’s keeping me away from my children.
Oh dear God, please hear my complaint.
