A Flawed Partner

We live in a society,
That determines whether you’ll be accepted or not,
Based on your weight,
Hair type,
Eye color,
And skin tone.
These are the things I’ve been told my whole life:
“Eat less carbs,
So you’ll find someone to marry you.”
“Why are you dark-skinned?
There’s no one dark-skinned in our family.
Too bad.”

I became convinced,
That I should marry someone who’s flawed,
So he’d accept my flaws.
I’ve been in several relationships,
But every time I was told,
“If you lose a little weight,
You’ll look beautiful.”
I was still not accepted.

A miracle happened,
And I met someone who told me,
“I love you just the way you are.
I don’t want you to lose weight.”
It took me a while to believe that he wasn’t lying to me.
Then the miracle happened,
And I married him.
