A Pair of Sunglasses

I’m a girl like any other girl,
But unfortunately,
Society doesn’t consider me to be like any other girl,
Because I’m cross eyed.
When someone jokes about it,
Either to me or someone else,
It causes me a lot of pain.
It’s true they’re only joking around,
But it cuts me to the core.

Some will ask me why I haven’t gotten it fixed.
Sometimes, I’ll be talking to someone,
And they’ll turn around to look behind them.
It’s so incredibly painful.
Then there are children who’ll ask you why your eye looks like that.
I took to wearing sunglasses for a while,
But it didn’t work at night.
So, I started looking anywhere else but at the person I’m talking to,
So I don’t accidently get hurt.
